On March 13th, ELE USAL Nepal closed its doors to join the celebration of Holi Festival, one of the most vibrant and colorful festivities in Nepal and India. Holi marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the victory of good over evil, filled with music, joy, and, of course, colorful powders! 🎊 How is Holi celebrated in Nepal? People gather in the streets to throw colored powders at each other, symbolizing diversity and happiness. Traditional dances and songs fill the festive atmosphere. Families and friends enjoy traditional food and sweets together. 💡 Is there a similar festival in Spain?Although Spain doesn’t have an identical festival to Holi, there are colorful and joyful celebrations, such as Las Fallas in Valencia and Feria de Abril in Seville. Las Fallas celebrates the arrival of spring with fireworks, music, and the famous cremà, where artistic monuments are burned as a symbol of renewal. Feria de Abril fills the streets with colorful outfits, flamenco music, and lively celebrations in festive booths, where people come together to enjoy food, dance, and joy. The terms A1 and A2 refer to levels of proficiency in a language based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This framework is widely used to describe a person's language ability across different skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing). Here’s a breakdown of what each level means: A1 (Beginner) At this level, you can: Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at satisfying concrete needs. Introduce yourself and others, and ask and answer questions about personal details (e.g., where you live, people you know, things you have). Interact in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly. A2 (Elementary) At this level, you can: Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g., personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. Describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment, and matters in areas of immediate need. Both levels focus on basic communication, but A2 is a step beyond A1, where the user can handle slightly more complex conversations and understand more detailed expressions in everyday contexts. These levels serve as a foundation for further development, moving into B1 (Intermediate), B2 (Upper Intermediate), and beyond. It is the official language in 21 countries, mainly in Spain and most Latin American countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile, and many more. It is also widely spoken in the United States, where there is a large Spanish-speaking community, although it is not an official language at the national level.  The U.S. has over 42 million Spanish speakers, making it the second-largest Spanish-speaking population in the world after Mexico. Spanish is widely spoken in states like California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Arizona. Additionally, it is spoken in certain regions of the Philippines where it was once an official language and still has Spanish influence. It is also spoken in Equatorial Guinea because it was a Spanish colony from 1778 until it gained independence in 1968, but Spanish remained the official language. It is still used in government, media, and education. Today, it is spoken by about 70–75% of the population, making it the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa. Mexico is the country with the largest number of Spanish speakers in the world, with approximately 130 million native speakers. It is followed by Colombia, Argentina, and Spain in terms of number of speakers. Spanish is also one of the official languages of major international organizations, including the United Nations, the European Union, and the Organization of American States. Yesterday, ELE USAL Nepal officially opened its doors in Kathmandu, marking the beginning of an exciting journey to bring Spanish language and culture to the heart of Nepal. The grand opening event was a true celebration, filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable experiences. The day began with a warm welcome and an engaging presentation led by Ana, our Head of Studies. She introduced the mission and vision of ELE USAL Nepal, highlighting our commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive space for learning Spanish. Following the presentation, we wanted to express our gratitude to all our guests for attending. Each participant received a special gift: a beautiful ELE USAL Nepal tote bag and a branded pen — a small token of appreciation for their support. Next, we broke the ice with a fun collaborative game to form teams for the main challenge of the day: a lively quiz titled “What Do You Know About Spain?” The room filled with energy as participants enthusiastically answered questions about Spanish culture, geography, and traditions. The winning team proudly took home exclusive ELE USAL Nepal mugs, but everyone left with smiles, thanks to their gift bags and pens. The event continued with a delightful Spanish wine tasting session, where Ana guided guests through the art of appreciating the flavors and aromas of authentic Spanish wines. This sensory experience brought a touch of Spain to Kathmandu. To complement the wine, our guests savored a delicious tortilla de patatas, lovingly prepared by Ana and Rosa. It was a culinary hit, enjoyed by all who attended. As the day progressed, it was time to move to the rhythm of Spain. Our dance class brought everyone together for a joyful and energetic session, where guests embraced Spanish music and dance moves with enthusiasm. We wrapped up the event with heartfelt gratitude, thanking everyone for coming and making the day truly unforgettable.
